Get Screened for Head and Neck Cancers

March 29, 2021

The statistics aren’t pleasant. Every year, about 650,000 people around the world are diagnosed with cancers of the head and neck for the first time. Out of those 650,000 people, 330,000 will expire from their cancer. That’s a ghastly 51 percent!

The oral and maxillofacial surgeons at the office of Green Office are experts in face, mouth and jaw surgery. Each of them is a member of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, which is the certifying board for the specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery in the U.S. and is recognized and approved by the Council on Dental Education of the American Dental Association.

Not including skin cancers, over 90 percent of cancers of the head and neck start in the mucosal (membranes that are rich in mucous glands) layers of the oral cavity, oropharynx and larynx. Oral and oropharyngeal cancers make up 1.6 percent of all deaths from cancer in the U.S. The foremost risks for those two cancers include smoking cigarettes, chewing tobacco, the overconsumption of alcoholic beverages, and infections of certain forms of the human papilloma virus.

The longer an oral cancer is left unidentified, the greater the risk that it will progress and lead to mortality. That’s why early detection is so important. Screenings should always be included in regular exams. Healthcare providers, including dentists, can use their eyes and hands to examine their patients’ heads and necks.

The surgeons at the office of Green Office are committed to providing all of their patients with the care and attention they need and deserve. They are experts in all of the procedures they perform. During your initial consultation, you will have the opportunity to discuss with us your situation. We will then evaluate your case, discuss any areas of concern you may have and then devise a plan to meet your expectations. Please contact us today to schedule an appointment.
